The NANPA Foundation’s successful expanded Silent Auction will continue as a Friday evening reception and social highlight, offering lots of desirable items on which to bid in a festive atmosphere with food and drink. Be sure to include it in your plans. This event is the primary fundraising effort at the Summit to benefit the NANPA Foundation and its educational programs. At the last Summit, the Silent Auction offered more than 130 items!
What’s in store this year? Look for variety as well as attractive colorful displays and promotional materials, easy-to-read bid sheets, preprinted bidding increments on the bid sheets for quick competitive bidding and a Buy-It-Now option on each bid sheet. Once again, we plan three closings (Red, Green and Blue―RGB) to encourage ongoing bidding from one section to another.
As the Summit approaches, return to this web page for listings and photos of many desirable items. Among the values are time in the field with pros, travel tours, workshops, photo and digital equipment, instruction, software, photo accessories and much more. If you wish to donate an item, click here.
As in previous years, the auction is the primary fund-raising effort at the Annual Summit to benefit the NANPA Foundation. Founded in 1996 as a charitable organization, the Foundation supports worthy projects involving education and nature photography, including funding NANPA’s educational programs, particularly the two scholarship programs at the Summit. Funding is also provided for the building and preservation of photo blinds in national wildlife refuges, an outgrowth of the Memorandum of Understanding between NANPA and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. In addition, several grants are awarded each year to promote education, complete environmental projects and share photographic expertise with others.
The NANPA High School Scholarship Program
The NANPA High School Scholarship Program benefits high school youth from the ages of 14 to 18. It provides selected students an opportunity to spend a week learning nature photography and increasing their appreciation for our natural world. Each year, 10 students from across North America are selected to attend the Summit and participate in classroom and field instruction. They meet with professional photographers, editors and writers, and attend educational sessions. From its inception in 1994 through 2008, more than 140 young people have participated. We encourage you to introduce yourself and become acquainted with the students while attending this year’s Summit.
The NANPA Summit College Photography Scholarship Program
The NANPA College Scholarship Program builds on the success of the High School Scholarship Program by selecting eligible college students from throughout North America to attend the Annual Summit. Students do not have to be majoring in art or photography, but must demonstrate their ability and passion for photography and a desire to pursue nature photography. Students participate in portfolio reviews, field trips and all the Summit sessions. Morning and evening gatherings with photography professionals give students great insight into professional nature photography. Educational mentors assist and direct students in their pursuits during the Summit.
Seeking Mentors
The Foundation seeks NANPA members to serve as educational mentors for the College Program. Being a mentor to these college students means that you will spend time with them, share your insights and expertise, and be available to answer questions. If you are a professional nature photographer, editor or agent who would like to spend a few hours mentoring young, enthusiastic photographers, please contact the NANPA Foundation office.
Donating items and services to the Silent Auction is a great way to promote your company’s generosity. Your company and its donation will be publicized in meeting brochures and on the NANPA website. Remember—donations are tax deductible. Please contact the Foundation office for a donation form or print the form from the website.
